Alpine aster is native to Europe, Asia and also North America, where it can be found in Colorado, Alaska and then bigger portion of Canada. It is also the earliest flowering aster.
Pinkish-purple flowers, 8" tall x 12" wide. Full sun, half shade, average garden soil, medium to dry, preferably drier or drained soils, rocky soils, that are not too fertile. Flowers in May-June.
This is more likely short-lived perennial, that will self-seed, if allowed. Attracts butterflies and is bee friendly.
For rock gardens, alpine troughs, crevice gardens, drained soils, but also for the front of sunny border, if the soil is drained. Nice cut flower, but with shorter stems.
