Horizontally branching aster with tiny white flowers and reddish stems.

2.5' tall and wide, flowers in August to early October.

Full sun, half shade, adaptable to many soil types - average garden soil, sandy, gravely, loam, clay, moist, medium-moist to medium-dry.

Attracts butterflies, native bees and other small insects. Deer and rabbit may occasionally browse on the plants. Black walnut tolerant plant.

Hardy in zones 4 to 9. Species of Aster lateriflorus is native to eastern half of USA and Canada.

Easy to grow perennial, modest and adaptable. Combine with more rough or vertical structure - Panicum 'Northwind', Echinacea, Rudbeckia, Liatris. For sunny borders, naturalistic plantings, prairie plantings, woodland edges, pollinator or butterfly gardens.
