Product Description
Large to gigantic cultivar, with dense clumps reaching up to 5' of height and 7.5' of width! This is 11th best False Indigo in Baptisia trials at Mt. Cuba Center (Delaware), but for it's size it's recommended for bigger gardens.
Pea-like, violet-purple flowers with yellow keels on 19" long flowering stems (above the foliage). Blooms in late May for 2.5 weeks. Leaves are typical clover-like( trifoliate) and green. Ornamental seedpods emerge green and later turn black.
Reminds of medium sized shrub, long-lived and drought tolerant perennial (once established).
Queen Bumblebees are the primary pollinators, but it will attract butterflies too. Deer and rabbit resistant plant.
Hardiness zones 4-8.
Easy to grow and adaptable to many soil types, including sandy, rocky or pure clay, soil can be medium-dry to medium-moist.
Hybrid of native species, patented plant that can't be propagated - licensed under U.S. Plant Patent PP19,011 (July 8, 2008).
Low maintenance perennial for bigger to big gardens or front gardens, perfect for sunny border, cottage gardens, prairies, naturalistic landscaping, meadows, native plant gardens and public spaces too. Effective in naturalized settings.
Great combo is with Amsonia, Coreopsis, Penstemon, Echinacea, grasses, Peonies and Roses.
