Geum x 'Wet Kiss' - AVENS' WET KISS'

Product Code: GEU-X-WETKIS
Shipping: Calculated at Checkout
$8.75

'Wet Kiss' = avens hybrid with up-facing, vermilion/orange semi-double flowers (1 and1/4" in diameter). Red sport of famous cultivar 'Mai Tai', but with richer colors, red stems and buds!

Good cultivar in Chicago Botanic Gardens trials, gaining 4 out of 5 stars.

Blooms from mid May to late June

Clumps of fuzzy semi-evergreen leaves, height10/18" (w/wo flowers) x 18" wide. More or less ground-covering mounds.

Full sun, half-shade, preferably loamy soils, loamy clay, organic rich soils, that stay medium to medium-moist (but NOT waterlogged).

Avens do like cooler climate, areas with cooler nights - so they will perform better in upper Midwest or coastal areas, in hotter climate find cooler spot in half shade (afternoon/early evening shade).

They will tolerate some summer droughts (each cultivar differs some), but leaves may scorch or turn brown and plant will re-sprout with more moisture.

Deer and rabbit resistant plant, butterfly and bee friendly.

Hardy in zones 4 - 7.

'Wet Kiss' was introduced by famous plantsman Brent Horvath (Intrinsic Perennial Gardens, Hebron, Illinois). This cultivar is patented under patent no. PP27227 - propagation is prohibited.

Geum x hybrids are excellent border perennials, with flowers reminding of little roses (they belong to Rose family - Rosaceae), they go well with many perennials, best planted in the front of the flower bed.

Good combination are with Amsonia, hardy Geraniums, Iris, Nepeta, Heuchera, Hemerocalis, Hosta (in half-shade), Paeonia, Salvia or any other border perennials and medium sized grasses like Sporobolus, Schizachyrium or shorter cultivars of Panicum.

Geums tolerate half-shade, so they can combined with half-shade, dappled sun/shade woodland edge/ woodland perennials  - Aquilegia, Anemone x hupehensis, Chelone, Chrysogonum, Dicentra, Gillenia, Helleborus, Heuchera, Hosta, Lobelia, Primula, Polemonium, Polygonatum, Polygonum, Tradescantia, Tricyrtis, Spigellia, or sedges - Carex.

  • My first try with a geum and I'm so impressed! 5

Posted by Sandy on 29th Apr 2023

After 40 years of gardening I thought I would try a geum which is new to me and in my first order this absolutely beautiful flower arrived, the first one to bloom. It matches my David Austin Lady Emma Hamilton rose perfectly! Perky and fresh, this tough little stunner wowed me so much I ordered more . The packaging for my three orders is the best I have ever seen. All materials are recyclable and/or reusable. I am so impressed with US Perennials!
