Robust, undemanding and naturally beautiful native grass from Texas and northern Mexico. Hardy in zones 6 to 10.
Full sun, half sun, half shade, well drained soil to dry soils (adaptable - average, sandy, rocky, or even clay soils if they stay dry), medium-dry to dry soil. Loves alkaline soils.
Clump forming grass with grayish leaves (semi-evergreen in warmer zones), 3-4' tall (5' with flower) x 2-3" wide, flowers in September to October, emerge pinkish and turn silver-yellow.
Warm season grass (active growth in warm part of the season), requires long season to bloom. Drought, heat and humidity tolerant.
Deer and rabbit resistant grass. Salt tolerant - performs well in coastal areas. provides nesting material for birds.
Best in sunny garden with well drained soils, coastal gardens, xeriscape, bigger rock gardens or containers.
