Product Description
Coastal clumping native grass with grayish leaves. Drought, heat, humidity tolerant, polluted air and salt tolerant.
Warm season grass, reaching 3.5'-4' tall x 3' wide clumps (can get taller with flowers), ornamental wider leaves arch down.
Flowers in August to October with green-yellow panicles with airy look. Arching panicles persist till winter. Leaves turn yellow in the fall.
Full sun (tolerates half shade, but the clump can either open or flop). Adaptable to soil types with all pH - loamy, sand, chalk, lean soils, adaptable, some drainage is beneficial. Dry, medium-dry, medium-moist soils. Undemanding. May flop in too rich soils.

Hardy in zones 5 to 9.
Deer and rabbit resistant, tolerant to black walnuts. Attracts birds, host plant for larvae of several skippers and Common Wood-Nymph butterfly.
Can be used in flower beds, on average to drained soils, for erosion control, in coastal areas, salt-spray tolerant planting, rain gardens. Can be combined with many common perennials for sun.
Selection 'Dewey Blue' is more common in horticulture.
