Perennials To Attract Hummingbirds

Hummingbirds like long tubular or bell shaped flowers, but not only those will feed them. Providing the natural sources of food in your yard is the best thing that you can do. Red, orange and yellow flowers are the most visible for them. Tubular flowers abound, for example these perennial species and varietes of Monarda, Agastache, Penstemon, Salvia, Lobelia, Physostegia, Chelone, Lonicera, Heuchera, but also perennials like Aquilegia, Phlox, Silphium, Liatris, Dicentra, Echinacea, Iris, Kosteletzkya, Manfreda.

Of course hummers won't be upset with non-native and non-invasive plants like Hosta, Hemerocallis, Alcea, Kniphophia, tender tropical or subtropical plants and plenty of annuals.

Annuals are long blooming plants and are a vital food source all season long. Typical planting with shorter plants in a front-row and taller plants in the back, is very helpful and makes easy access to all the blooms (and allows great hummingbird watching).
