Valuable very late flowering perennial for shade or half-shade garden, great addition to hosta or other woodland plants.

Easy to grow perennial and virtually pest free, 2.5-3' tall x 1-2' wide vase-shaped clumps with somewhat arching branches.Slowly spreads into wider clumps, long-lived perennial.

Blooms in September-October is one of the last blooms of the season, especially in shade garden. Single flower is creamy white with burgundy-purple spots and blotching, about 2.5" in diameter.

Half-shade, full shade (partial sun with enough moisture too), average moisture soil (medium) to medium-moist. Grows well in average soil that is enriched by some organic matter - leaf-mulch, old compost, composted fine bark. Adaptable to any soils type, that is amended with some organic matter (sandy, loam, heavier, alkaline to acidic).

Popular cut flower in Japan, where it originates. Hardy in zones 5 to 8.

Deer usually avoids it, rabbit may browse the young shoots.

Great plant for woodland garden, shaded beds, half shade areas, cottage gardens, cut gardens. Excellent companion to Actaea, Brunnera, Carex, Iris cristata, Hosta, Primula, Pulmonaria, Polygonatum, Stylophorum and other shade loving perennials. Best, if planted close to path, where you can admire it's beauty.
