Showy and easy perennial - the only thing that it needs is drained soil.
Large deep blue flowers in early summer, low mounds of fresh green leaves.
Groundcovering growth.
Blooming Time: May to June (in cooler areas can bloom till August)
Size: usually 8-10" tall and wide
USDA Zones: 4 to 8
Culture: full sun to half shade; average or drained soil - performs the best with some drainage (gravel, coarse sand, haydite, gritty soils, sandy soils). Avoid waterlogged and wet soils.
Moisture Needs: medium, medium-dry, dry
Origin: Northeastern Asia (China, Mongolia, Korea and Russia). Can be found on grassy slopes, in grasslands and rock or sandy river beds.

Attracts Butterflies or Pollinators: no / yes

Plant combinations: Showy and easy plant for the front of the flower borders, rock gardens, edges, crevices, and drained or dry soils.
It can be combined with many sun-loving perennials; it meets in bloom time and looks good with the yellow colors of Achillea 'Moonshine', Coreopsis, Oenothera, and Rudbeckia missouriensis, with the orange flowers of Asclepias tuberosa, the purples of Callirhoe, and the shorter cultivars of Echinacea. Other good companions can be Dianthus, Heuchera (in drier half shade), shorter bearded Irises, Penstemon, Thymus, Teucrium, Satureja, Saponaria and medium to smaller grasses like Koeleria, Sporobolus, Muhlenbergia, Stipa, shorter Schizachyrium.
