Unusual looking native perennial, with delicate look, graceful moving in the wind.

Strictly upright growth, insignificant white-green flowers.

Can be somewhat weedy (seeding and spreading via rhizomes).

Excellent backdrop for other plants or as solitaire plant, great in large containers (combined with annuals), highly valuable to many pollinators.

Blooming time: late summer - August/September to October/November
Size: rather tall plant, often close to 6' tall and 2-3' wide (in poor conditions 3-4' tall)
USDA zones: 6 to 9
Culture: full sun, partial shade, adaptable to variety of soils, tolerates sandy soils. Drought tolerant. 
Moisture Needs: medium (average), medium-dry
Origin: native to southern and southeastern states of USA - from Texas diagonally through Kentucky to Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, see the BONAP distribution map. Can be found in the fields, roadsides, clearings and woodland margins.
Deer/rabbit resistant: yes / yes
Attracts Butterflies or Pollinators: yes - various wasps, bees, skippers, butterflies, moths 
Attracts Hummingbirds: no 
Pot Size: square 3.5" x 4" deep perennial pot

Combinations: Goes well with many common peennials (native and non-native) and annuals. For it's delicate look it's better to combine it with plants with larger flowers (like Echinacea, Rudbeckia, Zinnia, Cosmos) or larger leaves (like Parthenium, Eupatorium, Peaonia, Coleus)
