Small shrub with petite habit and ornamental foliage that emerges coppery red with a gloss finish that matches the stems.

Glossy coppery red buds open to pure white flowers are followed by ornamental seedpods.

Selected for hardiness and performance in the cooler areas (up to 5b zone) - here it's often treated as perennial - the whole upper part is cut back in the spring. 

Blooms on the new growth and is very late to sprout (can be end of May or June).


Size: small shrubs 2-2.5' tall and wide (in Michigan, will get taller in warmer climates)
USDA Zones: 5b to 10
Culture: from full sun to partial sun. Average soils amended with some compost (preferably neutral to slightly acidic), average moisture to drier.
Moisture Needs: medium-dry, medium (average), dry

Plant combinations: Goes well with majority of common perennials (native and not native), other smaller shrubs and grasses. Good for public and private gardens, deer resistant planting, as a showstopping accent. Very valuable for the leaf color and late blooming period. Good companions can be Amsonia, mounding cultivars of Asters, Baptisia, Chrysanthemum, Echinacea, shorter Eupatorium, cultivars of Heliopsis, Irises, Nipponanthemum, Monarda, Paeonia, Rudbeckia, tall Sedum, Stachys. And other grasses like Calamagrostis, Eragrostis, Muhlenbergia, Panicum, sterile Pennisetum, Sporobolus.
