Valuable for late blooming in August-September - pollinator magnet for bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
Can be treated as perennial since it blooms on new shoots (by cutting it back to the ground, especially in cooler zones )

Size: usually around 4-5' tall x 10-12' wide

Culture: full sun, half shade, average soils with average amount of nutrients, drained soils, drainage is important, does well in infertile soils. AVOID OVERFERTILIZING! Established plants are drought tolerant.
Moisture Needs: dry to medium (average), medium-moist (but drained)
Origin: Japan, discovered by plantsman Bill Frederick (in Gibraltar estate in Wilmington, Delaware).

Plant combinations: Best in flower larger flower or shrub beds, arching over bigger retaining walls, on slopes. Good companions are larger perennials like Asters, Eupatoriums, Phloxes, Rudbeckias, Senna, medium to tall grasses or another medium or larger-sized shrubs.
