It can grow to 5' tall x 2-2.5' wide, easy to grow, showy native wildflower, native to Central United States and part of Midwest, see the USDA distribution map - can be found in prairies, savannas, thickets, open woodlands.
Grows well in full sun, average soil with moderate moist to moist. Plants will tolerate part sun, heavy clay, sandy loam, heat and humidity and drought too.
Deer resistant plant and very good pollinator plant. Attracts many species of native bees, small and medium sized butterflies, true beetles, host plant for several moths.
Great plant for borders, cottage gardens, naturalizing in prairies, meadows, native plant gardens. Good cut flower. Sometimes needs staking.
