Sarracenia x moorei 'Conversation Piece' - PITCHER PLANT 'CONVERSATION PIECE' (zones 5-9)

Hybrid of two native Pitcher Plants - the pitchers are modified tubular leaves; the true red nodding flowers appear in spring on the linear winter leaves (phyllodia).

The pitchers emerge green with red veins, soon turning deep red.

Can be easily grown in peaty, moist soil or containers.

Blooming Time: the nodding flowers appear in early to mid-spring, the pitchers are visible throughout the year
Size: 24-26" tall and 12-18" wide

Culture: full sun/partial sun, constantly moist but not soggy, acidic, peat-based soil. Requires acidic and lean soil - don't use fertilizer
Moisture Needs: moist, constantly moist (can be grown in small plastic pool/sand box, container, or bogs)
Origin: introduced by Plant Delights Nursery (Raleigh, NC) in 2018 as a hybrid of two native species: Sarracenia flava (see distribution map) and Sarracenia leucophylla (see distribution map). They grow naturally in wet savannas, bogs, seeps and pine flatwoods, on acidic, nutrient-poor, sandy/peaty soils.

Attracts Butterflies or Pollinators: native bees (primarily bumblebees), honeybees, wasps, flies
Attracts Hummingbirds: no
Pot Size: square 3.5" x 4" deep perennial pot 
Plant combinations: Special pond gardens, rain gardens, bog gardens, containers filled with acidic peat soil (these can be inserted into other garden parts). Good companions can be other pitcher plants, Iris x louisiana, Lobelia.
