Full sun, drained soils are the key, medium-dry to dry soils. This plant can handle hop and dry spot.
Hardy in zones 3 to 9.
Deer and rabbit resistant plant. Attracts butterflies and some bees.
Best for rock gardens, dry hot places, front of dry flower beds, for shallow soils, rocky or sandy soils, dry walls, troughs or crevices. Goes well with other drought tolerant plants like Achillea tomentosa or A. 'Moonshine', Agastache cana and short hybrids, Asclepias tuberosa and A. verticillata, Callirhoe, Coreopsis verticillata, Gaura, Geranium sanquinem, Iris x barbata (I. x germanica), Iris tectorum, many Penstemons, Monarda punctata, Nepeta, Oenothera, Ruellia humilis, shorter Perovskia, other sedum, Stachys byzantina, Stokesia or lower drought tolerant grasses (Sporobolus, Schizachyrium - lower cultivars, Muhlenbergia, Eragrostis).
