Product Description
Lovely goldenrod with different look - narrow grassy leaves and flat inflorescenses. True pollinator magnet!
Usually around 3' tall x 1-2' wide (2' in dry soil, 4" tall in moist soil. Flowers in late summer to fall
This wildflower is native to most states of USA, see the USDA distribution map.
Full sun, half shade, it likes moist to wet soils, which is where it naturally occurs - and here can spread aggressively! It is very adaptable to soil type and moisture too, so it can grow in dry soil too, where behaves better.
Hardy in zones 3 to 9.
Deer and rabbit graze on the foliage. But it is an excellent pollinator plant and true pollinator magnet - attracts long-tongued bees, short-tongued bees, wasps, flies, butterflies, moths, and beetles. Host plant for caterpillars of several moths and beetles.
And it is good bird plant too - seeds are eaten by the Eastern Goldfinch and Swamp Sparrow and the foliage can be occasionally eaten by the Greater Prairie Chicken.
The best for naturalistic plantings, prairie plantings, pollinator and bird gardens. Good plant for naturalization and erosion control, can be used in large rain gardens or seasonal retention pools.
