Easy to grow, trouble free half shade/ shade perennial with white orchid-like flowers.

Valuable for very late blooming season in the shade garden (inc. deep shade).

Pollinator friendly.

Deer and rabbit resistant plant - best to be planted close to the path, so you can admire it's beauty.

Tolerates drier shade.

Rather late to emerge in the spring.

Blooming time : end of summer/early to mid fall

Size : 1.5'-2' tall and wide, moderately to slowly spreading into wider clumps

USDA zones : 4/5 to 9, heat and humidity tolerant

Culture : half sun (with enough moisture), half shade and light or dappled shade. Tolerates full shade and drier shade. Average soil with average moisture (medium) - amended with some compost, leaf compost and mulch with organic debris (leaves, shredded leaves or little bit of bark mulch). Adaptable (slightly acidic, neutral or slightly alkaline, average). Avoid waterlogged and wet clay soil.

Moisture Needs : average - medium, medium-dry, to medium-moist

Origin : Japanese islands of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu

Plant combinations : Great plant for half shade garden, woodland garden, close to shady part of stream  or water gardens, underplanting big trees. Also good for partially shaded big containers.
Looks good if combined with grassy-leaves or bigger leaves. From grasses choose Carex (sedges), Deschampsia, Hakonechloa. Other good companions can be Aconitum, Alchemilla, Anemone hupehensis (japonica hybrids), Amsonia, Aquilegia, Aruncus, Astilbe, Astrantia (in cooler areas), Brunnera, Cimicifuga (Actaea), Chrysogonum, Dicentra, Epimedium, Gallium odoratum, hardy Geraniums, Geum, Gillenia, Heuchera and Heucherella, Hosta, Iris sibirica, Iris tectorum, Nepeta subsessilis, Persicaria amplexiaculis, Polemonium, Phlox stolonifera, Polygonatum, bigger Pulmonaria, Rudbeckia fulgida 'Goldsturm', Spigelia, Tiarella,Tradescantia, Waldsteinia, ferns  and all spring ephemerals.
