Lavender-purple flowers, upright growth, later more relaxed habit
Doesn't seed around and stays in dense clumps.
Chives is old culinary herb, but more and more is used in ornamental horticulture, because it very tough, adaptable, easy to grow and can surprisingly handle lot of drought and heat - so it can be used in shallow soil or roof garden with thinner layer of substrate.
Blooming Time: late spring to early summer
Size: 12’ tall x 14-16' wide
USDA Zones: 4 to 8
Culture: full sun, half sun, hlaf shade to light shade. Grows well in average garden soil amended with organic matter, loam, organic rich soil, adaptable to ry, shalow, rocky or sandy soils. Drought tolerant
Moisture Needs: dry, medium, medium-moist
Origin: Introduced in 2017 by famous plantsman and breeder Brent Horvath from Intrinsic Perennial Gardens, Illinois. Plant is patented under PP30151.
Chives is native to many states of USA, but it grows in the temperate zone around the globe. It's also in cultivation for very long and sometimes escaped from gardens, so it's quite difficult to distinguish the wild forms from the cultivated forms. See the Bonap distribution map.
Deer/Rabbit Resistant: yes / yes
Attracts Butterflies or Pollinators: pollinator friendly
Attracts Hummingbirds: no
Pot Size: square 3.5" x 4" deep pot
Plant combinations : Cottage gardens, hummingbird, gardens, woodland edge garden, morning sun+afternoon shade garden. Can be combined with many perennials, depending on your site and zone. Often it's used as a groundcover plant and in colder zones as annual.
