Amsonia rigida - STIFF BLUE STAR
Rare native wildflower and showy perennial. It is smaller than the other commonly-used species of Amsonia, so it's suitable for smaller gardens and landscaping. It forms upright bushy clumps, bearing loose, pretty clusters of star-shaped flowers in blue tones. The whole habitus resembles that of a little tree or shrub with narrower leaves.
This is a good plant for sunny or half shade borders and woodland edges, especially in combination with wild forms or cultivars of these perennials: Aster, Coreopsis verticillata, Echinacea purpurea, Liatris spicata, Oenothera, Monarda didima, Phlox paniculata, Veronicastrum virginicum, grasses like Carex, Panicum or lower groundcover perennials.
Also called Rigid Blue Star.
