Smaller, highly aromatic perennial for drained soil or rock garden.
Mounds about 0.75' tall x 1' wide, tubular purple-pink flowers, quite ornamental leaves. Flowers from the May/June till August/September, with the major peak in June/July.
Full sun to half shade, average to dry soil, with average = medium moisture to dry. Naturally drained soil with tendencies to dry out faster, sandy, gritty, rocky, gravelly soil. Tolerates drier shade (not too deep). It can moderately selfseed when happy.
Hardy in zones 5 to 9. Pollinator friendly,
Native to open woods and rocky slopes from southern Europe to Iran and Caucasus.
Dried leaves have refreshing minty flavor and scent, this herb was used to seasoning and as tea to treat jaundice, nervous complaints, convulsions and cramp. A warm poultice of the leaves helps to soothe bruises and rheumatic pain.
Goes well with Asclepias tuberosa, Achillea, lower cultivars of Baptisia cultivars, Coreopsis, Dianthus, Delosperma, shorter cultivars of Echinacea, bearded Iris, Kalimeris, Lavandula, Nepeta, Phlox subulata, Penstemon, Salvia, Satureja, Thymus, Verbena canadensis and lower to medium sized grasses or small flowering shrubs or conifers.
Pot size : square 3.5" x 5" deep pot
