Nowadays there are dozens of hybrids of Swamp Mallow, mostly vegetative propagated clones.  These offered plants are seed hybrids with big pink flowers in the shape of a plate (about 5.5” across). The three-lobed leaves are hairy and slightly silver-green. This perennial forms bushy clumps that look like little shrubs.

Suitable for sunny borders with moist soil, rain gardens, around small ponds or bigger containers. Can be planted as a solitary plant or in a border with Asclepias incarnata, Boltonia, Eupatorium (shorter cultivars), Chelone, Iris virginiana, Iris versicolor, Lobelia, Physostegia, Rudbeckia fulgida, Veronicastrum or grasses like Panicum virgatum, Sporobolus heterolepis, Carex muskingumensis, Carex grayi and others.

The leaves may be damaged by Japanese beetles (in this case, use an organic treatment to protect useful pollinators).

    My plant is now producing flowers here in late August. The color is more of a cool deep red unlike the pictures. It is in a garden that gets a lot of standing water as well as some shade and appears to be doing well. I'm very happy with it.
