Strictly upright and vertical, with nice gray-silver color and good height under 4', rosy-colored flowers.

Adaptable and easy.

Tolerant to black walnut, heat and humidity.

 

Size : 3-4' tall x 2-3' wide clumps

Blooming time : July, August, September

USDA zones : 4 to 9

Culture : sun, half sun,adaptable to various soil conditions, average soil, loam, clay soil, gritty soil, lean soil, seaside areas with salt exposure

Moisture Needs : medium-wet, medium-moist, medium (average), medium-dry, tolerates droughts.

Origin :  garden origin, combines very upright vertical structure of 'Northwind' with very gray color of 'Heavy Metal'. Patented under PP #32736, propagation prohibited. The species of Panicum virgatum is native to the majority of USA (except the west coast) and inhabits various habitats (from dry to moist prairies, savannas or open woods).

Deer/rabbit resistant : yes/yes

Attracts Hummingbirds : no, but attracts small song birds

Attracts pollinators : no

Pot Size : square 3.5" x 4" deep perennial pot

Plant combinations : Great performer for small gardens, public plantings, low maintenance and sustainable plantings. Seedheads look great against backlight.

Offers endless combinations with majority of common perennials for sun (those that prefer drier or medium-moist conditions).

Look good with bigger flowers (and seedheads) of big flowers like Echinacea, Rudbeckia, but also fall Asters, Boltonia, Coreopsis, Chelone, Helianthus, Hemerocallis (later blooming ones), herbaceous Hibiscus, Helenium, Heliopsis, Phlox, Physostegia etc.
