Late blooming three-season plant - the emerging leaves are usually reddish, the fall color is red to burgundy red and if you don't cut the stems in late fall, they stay ornamental throughout the winter.

Tolerant to heat and humidity. Attracts a lot of pollinators -  mostly flies, bees and wasps, but occasionally butterflies too.

Meets in bloom with many summer and fall perennials and simply looks striking

Size: usually 4-6' tall x 1.5-2" wide (for shorter stems, cut back in May)
USDA zones: 5 to 8
Culture: Full sun, partial sun, average soil or rich soil, with average moisture (medium, medium-moist, seasonally medium-dry). Plants can flop if planted in half-shade or shade!
Moisture Needs: medium to medium-moist, tolerant to heat and humidity
Origin: originates in Japan and Korea
Black Walnut Tolerant: most likely yes

    Arrived well rooted and planted in early Spring into low/medium moisture half shade in my mid-Atlantic garden. Started blooming late July with clear yellow flowers rising around 2.5ft tall. I expect this will grow much taller and will be a late summer favorite.

    This Golden Valerian was such a lovely surprise. It is a stunning plant, and grows 5’+ in my garden. Unfortunately it’s planted right in front of my yellow butterfly bush and just north of my Zizia (Golden Alexanders, so there’s a lot of sunshine in that bed. No wonder your stock is out for this year!
