Platycodon grandiflorus 'Fuji Blue' - BALLOON FLOWER 'FUJI BLUE' (2.5-3'tall)

No reviews yet
Product Code: PLA-FUJ-BLUE
Shipping: Calculated at Checkout
$8.49

'Fuji Blue' = taller form, for us up to 3' tall - combine with other taller plants, since it can flop without support of those.

Blue balloon-like flower buds that open to bell-shaped, darker veins.

Long-lived perennial, drought, heat and humidity tolerant.

Black walnut tolerant, deer and rabbit resistant plant.

Can be heavy seeder and spread some. If you want to prevent seedlings, cut back the seedheads, before the capsules start to open. Or scuff the seedlings in the spring before they establish deep roots.

Good cut flower, seed heads can be used in dried arrangements.

Blooming Time: June-July
Size: 2-3' tall x 1-1.5' wide upright clumps, rather late sprouting in the spring. This selection is for us much taller than is found in various descriptions.
USDA Zones: 3-8
Culture: Full sun, half shade, adaptable to many soil types, including clay or sandy, rocky soils with average moisture (medium) to medium-dry/dry soils. Avoid waterlogged soils!
Moisture Needs: medium (average), medium-dry to dry
Origin: Originates in East Asia (from Far east Russia, to China, Korea and Japan). Valued culinary plant in Korea (edible roots - "doraji") and in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as cheaper substitute for ging-seng (anti-inflammatory properties).
Deer/Rabbit Resistant: yes / yes
Attracts Butterflies or Pollinators: some small butterflies / yes
Attracts Hummingbirds: no
Plant Combinations: Flower beds in sun or half shade, cut flower gardens, xeriscape. Best if tucked among other taller (2-3' tall) plants and grasses - since it can tend to flop. Good with Echinacea, Achillea, Agastache, Amsonia, summer blooming Allium, Asclepias tuberosa, Aster, Baptisia, Calamintha, Coreopsis, Gaura, Knautia, Liatris, Monarda, Nepeta, Oenothera, Penstemons, Platycodon (taller ones), Rudbeckia, Salvia nemorosa hybrids, tall Sedum, Solidago, Stachys, Vernonia lettermannii, taller Veronica, Yucca, and grasses like Bouteloa, Muhlenbergia, Sporobolus, Schizachyrium scoparium, Sorghastrum or Panicum.

Pot Size: square 3.5" x 4" deep perennial pot
