Woodland edge perennial that dies back after flowering (and com es back next year)

Crinkled light green leaves, mix of pink, purple, bicolor pink and occasional white. Large 1.5" flowers with cut and crinckled petals.

Usually turns dormant when the summer heat hits us.

Goes well with spring bulbs and native ephemerals.

Award of Merit by RHS (Royal Horticultural Society in Britain)

 

Blooming Time: mid spring (April/May, depending to your zone)
Size: usually 10-12" tall x 12" wide
USDA Zones: 4 to 8
Culture: half shade, dappled (light) shade. Tolerates full sun in cooler areas (with enough moisture). Average soil with some organic matter, neutral or slightly acidic pH, tolerates clay.
Moisture Needs: average - medium, medium-moist, temporary moist soil
Origin: Japan, Korea, Russia and China
Black Walnut Tolerant: most likely yes
Deer/Rabbit Resistant: yes / yes
Attracts Butterflies or Pollinators: flowers attract some bees
Attracts Hummingbirds: no

Plant combinations: Easy to grow woodland edge perennial. Great for shade or half shade gardens or shade parts of rock gardens, cottage gardens.
