Rudbeckia hirta 'Prairie Sun' - BLACK-EYED SUSAN 'PRAIRIE SUN'
Superb plant, even short-lived and re-seeding perennial or biennial. This plant was honored with All-America Selection winner in 2003 and a Gold Medal winner at the 2003 Fleuroselect trials in England!
3' tall x 1.5-2' wide, branched clumps, covered with 5" large orange-lemon yellow flowers with green center, very hairy stems and leaves.
Flowering machine, blooming non-stop from June till frosts, dead-heading helps the better performance, but is not necessary.
Best in full sun, average soils, tolerates wide range of soils with average or medium moisture, but somewhat leaner soils and drier soils makes this plant more durable. Never plant in waterlogged soils!
It often self seeds and stays in area, where planted, seedling flower in the first year.
Hardy in zones 3 to 7, deer and rabbit resistant and virtually pest free plants. Attrracts birds and pollinators.
Great for sunny borders, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens, pollinator gardens, public spaces, larger containers or for naturalization in meadows. Can be combined with many perennials and annuals, and looks exceptionally well with grasses.
