Valuable end of summer / early to mid fall blooming shade perennial (when nearly nothing blooms in your shade garden)
Bi-color orchid pink large flowers with darker lip.

Aromatic leaves = deer and rabbit resistant.

Vigorous plant.

Blooming Time: August/September - October
Size: 2-3' tall x 2-3' wide
USDA Zones: 5b to 8b
Culture: partial sun, morning sun, part shade up to lighter shade; fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Tolerates heat and humidity. Likes moisture, but will do fine with average moisture.
Moisture Needs: moist to average, established plants tolerate droughts but prefers some moisture or deep watering from time to time (if the drought lasts too long).
Origin: Japan. The selection 'Autumn Enchanter' hower was introduced by Issima Nursery (Rhode Island), supposedly being a cross with Salvia glabrescens var. robustum.

Plant Combinations:

Combine with other shade loving perennials like Actaea (Cimicifuga), Asarum, Astilbe, Brunnera, Epimedium, Heuchera, Helleborus, Hosta, Iris cristata (and the Asian woodland Irises counterparts), Phlox divaricata, Primula, Polygonatum, spring ephemerals (Mertensia, Sanquinaria, Trillium, Uvularia) or grasses like Hakonechloa macra, Carex or Calamagrostis brachytricha.
