Salvia nemorosa 'Mainacht Strain '('May Night Strain') - MEADOW SAGE 'MAY NIGHT STRAIN'

The Strain one has smaller flowers, doesn't have the dark tips and in too rich soil can sometimes open the clumps.
This is the most common "maynight" offered.
Meadow sage 'May Night' is dense growing, up to 24'' tall and wide perennial with spikes of violet-purple flowers. Top performing perennial in landscaping.
Majority of Meadow sage cultivars or hybrids are clump forming, dense growing perennials, nearly with somewhat ground covering growth.
They flower for long period of time, starting in early summer - usually June, continuing till July, when cut back early (with still some blooms on) and adding a bit of fertilizer and some watering, they can rebloom and continue till the fall.
Very valuable perennials for sunny borders, with medium to drier or dry soils, due to it's tolerance to droughts, heat and air pollution are very important urban perennials and are often combined with grasses, Coreopsis, Echinacea, Perovskia, roses or daylilies.
