Strictly upright, evergreen rosettes, wiry stems with scarlet red flowers.

Very long flowering season from July to fall.

Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.

Blooming Time: July to October/November
Size: forms a narrow, upright clump, usually 3' tall x 1-1.5' wide 
USDA Zones: 7b-9b
Culture: sun, half sun, half shade, prefers medium to medium-dry soil, grows in average or drained soils (sandy, gravely).
Moisture Needs: dry, medium-dry, medium
Origin: endemic to West Louisiana and East Texas, often found on sunny to partially shaded, dry-mesic mixed pine-hardwood forests, savannahs, prairies, often on sandy soils, on slopes, roadsides, and in disturbed areas. It is fire dependent, which reduces the competition of woody plants.
