Easy, adaptable and valuable pollinator plant with very late and long blooming period! (September, October)
Darker foliage, 1" wide purple flowers, very resistant to mildew and leaf spots.
Blooming Time: early/mid summer fall (in northern Illinois blooms for 5-6 weeks from early-mid September to mid October)
Size: 31” tall x 43" wide (5 years old clump)
USDA Zones: 4/5 to 9
Culture: full sun (ideal is 6+ hours of direct sun). Adaptable and easy - does well in any soil with some organic matter. Tolerant to heat and humidity, and established plants can tolerate droughts and drier conditions
Moisture Needs: average (medium) to dry
Origin: Introduced by Chicagoland Grows in 2012 from seedlings - crosspollination made in 2010 of Vernonia lettermannii and Vernonia angustifolia ‘Plum Peachy’. Similar appearance to 'Summer Surrender', but with smaller clumps. Plant is patented PP28556, unlicensed propagation is prohibited.

Attracts Hummingbirds: yes
Pot Size: square 3.5" x 5" deep pot
Plant Combinations: Adaptable and therefore versatile plant with a firm "shrubby look". Great for sunny gardens (public and private). Can be combined with plants that prefer somewhat drier conditions (and are drought tolerant). For natives, choose shorter Agastache, Amsonia, Asclepias tuberosa, Baptisia, Coreopsis, Eryngium juccifolium, Echinacea, Gaura, Liatris, Penstemon digitalis hybrids, Stokesia, Yucca, native grasses like Boutelloa gracilis or B. curtipendula, Muhlenbergia, Sporobolus heterolepis (or non-native Sesleria), Panicum.
And good with non-native perennials like Achillea, summer blooming Allium, Aquilegia, Aster, Calamintha, Campanula, Eryngium, medium sized and taller hardy Geranium, Iris, Nepeta, Origanum, Paeonia, Perovskia, Platycodon, Salvia, tall Sedum, Stachys, Scabiosa columbaria, Veronica, etc.
In moister sites it can be combined with more moisture loving plants like Iris sibirica, Leucanthemum x superbum, Hemerocallis (daylily), Hibiscus, Monarda, Phlox paniculata hybrids or Phlox carolina hybrids.
