Evergreen clumping sedge with wider silvery-blue leaves.
Even it's also called "creeping sedge", this grass doesn't creep at all and stays in tight 12" x 18" wide clumps. Blooms in spring, but the flowers are insignificant and it's really the foliage that makes this sedge attractive.
Best in half shade or shade, in average to organic rich soil with average (medium) moisture to moist/wet soils.
This is selection of native sedge - Carex laxiculmis, which is naturaly growing in rich moist woods of eastern USA, see the USDA distribution map.
'Hobb' is the true cultivar name, but it is often sold under the trade mark name Bunny Blue, or with both names 'Hobb' BUNNY BLUE. It was introduced by Head Brothers of Seneca, South Carolina (patent pending).
Hardy in zones 4 to 9. Deer and rabbit resistant, black walnut tolerant plant.
Looks great in the front of the shade garden, edges of woodland gardens, in groups as groundcovering evergreen grass or as grass matrix. Good companions are Brunnera, Epimedium, Heuchera, Hosta, Polygonatum, Mertensia, Maianthemum, Trillium, and many other woodland plants or spring ephemerals.
