This perennial has unique, purple-blue flowers that appear from late summer to early fall. It dies back completely in the winter. The foliage releases an unpleasant aroma when crushed, which causes deer to avoid it.
Caryopteris divaricata prefers loose loam and will tolerate some drought; good drainage becomes even more necessary when it's planted in more northern zones. Provides an unusual detail for drained flower beds, perennial borders, cottage gardens, and butterfly gardens.

Dainty Bluebeard
Plant established quickly with minimal tending required. Bloomed later summer. The flowers are elegant but dainty, so it doesn’t have a huge color impractical from far away, you have to be more up close to appreciate how pretty it is. It doesn’t seem to be as much of a Subshrub (woody) as other blue beards, more perennial more perennial like. NY zone 6 planted in full sun normal moisture soil and composition.
