This early flowering phlox, not short/not tall, is true gem and it was discovered in nature.
It is very resistant to leaf-diseases, it's reliable clump forming perennial, slowly spreading into wide mounds 24" tall x 36" wide (about 2' wide clump in 3 years).
Best in full sun and average garden soil or loamy organic rich soils, tolerates half shade.
Hardy in zones 3 to 8.
Mildly fragrant flowers show up in late May to early June, with the peak in Early June, and are great cut flowers.
Deer and rabbit resistant, attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.
For it's qualities this phlox received very high ratings in phlox trials in Mt. Cuba research center and botanical gardens, Delaware :
"Phlox ‘Minnie Pearl’ was discovered along a roadside in Mississippi by Karen Partlow and was originally thought to be a hybrid between Phlox maculata and Phlox glaberrima. However, more recent research suggests it is a selection of P. carolina ssp. carolina. This cultivar was introduced by Plant Delights Nursery who named it after famed country comedienne, Minnie Pearl. It grows approximately 2’ tall and is covered in snow white flowers in late spring. The mildew-free foliage is also a dark, glossy green, which adds to its appeal even after the flowers are finished. ‘Minnie Pearl’ is a rhizomatous cultivar that forms a mass that slowly spreads at a rate of about 6” per year."
