Product Description
Superior, reliable and probably the most standard Coreopsis in Europe (where it's sold under 'Grandiflora', which means "large flowering").
It received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit in 2000 (UK).
Unfortunatelly variety not that common in USA. We brought this plant from famous plantsman Roy Diblik, from Northwind Perennial Farm.
Thank you Roy for this amazing workhorse!
One would say, why is not this one more common?
Probably because there is no patent on this plants and anyone can easily propagate it, so big nurseries can't make much money on it....
- dense clumps, 24”+ tall, 18" wide, slowly spreading clumps of very fine, needle-like foliage, very ornamental even when it doesn't bloom
- dense ground covering growth in full sun
- it's long season flowering perennial with bigger golden yellow flowers from early to late summer, great cut flower is a bonus!
- adaptable to many types of soil, including clay or shallow rocky soil, medium moisture or even drier soil. Sun or half sun are the best.
- long-lived perennial, very tough and reliable performer, hardy in zones 3-9
- attracts butterflies, bees, songbirds and is deer resistant
Very similar to 'Golden Showers' is 'Golden Gain', we would say nearly identical.
The parent species Coreopsis verticillata is native to the eastern U. S. from Massachusetts to Florida and west to Arkansas - it grows in open rocky dry woods, open pine woods, margins, pine and oak savannas
Shearing will prolong the flowering season. Can be combined with many common perennials and wildflowers too - looks great with Asclepias tuberosa, Echinacea purpurea or Echinacea tennesseensis, grasses, Paeonia, Achillea millefolium, hardy Geraniums.....
Excellent perennial for public and private gardens - borders, naturalized areas, native plant gardens, water-wise landscaping, deer resistant plantings, rock gardens, butterfly gardens or cottage gardens. Good plant for areas with poor, dry soils.
Highly valued by professional landscapers and hobby gardeners and beginners too.
