We got this groundcovering and densely spreading oregano last year and then realized it has lost it's variegated leaves...The true 'Jim Best' cultivar has irregularly yellow-splashed leaves.

Despite that we decided to propagate it as "Jim Best Reversed", because we value the compact, dense groundcovering growth.

Drought, heat and humidity tolerant, pollinator friendly (bees and butterflies).

Tough and vigorous, deer and rabbit resistant.

Blooming Time: 16" tall x 24" wide and spreading into wide clumps
USDA Zones: 4
to 9
Culture:
full sun, mostly sun, half shade, average soils, adaptable to many soil types, but preferably somewhat drained soils. Avoid waterlogged soils.
Moisture Needs:
average to drier or dry, adaptable. Established plants are drought tolerant
Deer/Rabbit Resistant:
yes / yes
Attracts Butterflies or Pollinators:
some butterflies / honeybees
Attracts Hummingbirds:
no
Pot Size:
square 3.5" wide x 4" deep perennial pot
Plant Combinations:
Best in sunny flower beds, on the edges, along patios or paths, water-wise plantings, herb gardens, bigger rock gardens, bigger containers or pollinator gardens. Great with small shrubs, perennials and grasses.

Looks better if combined with more rough structures (big leaves, grassy leaves, bigger or daisy-like flowers or spikes). Good companions are majority of commonly available perennials like Agastache, Amsonia, shorter Anemone hupehensis, Aster, Calamintha, Clinopodium, Coreopsis, Echinacea, Euphorbia, hardy, Geranium, Hemerocallis, shorter Helianthus, Iris x barbata (syn. I. x germanica = bearded irises), Kalimeris, Monarda, Nepeta, Origanum, Paeonia, Penstemon digitalis, Perovskia, Phlox, Physostegia, Rudbeckia, Salvia, Sedum, Solidago, Stachys, Stokesia, Tradescantia, Vernonia lettermanii cultivars, Veronica, etc. and ornamental grasses.
