Teucrium x lucidrys - HEDGE GERMANDER (evergreen hybrid)

Product Code: TEU-LUC-XXX
Shipping: Calculated at Checkout
$8.99

Small subshrub with very glossy evergreen leaves (matt on the bottom side). Keeps regular upright shape and therefore is often used on small evergreen hedges.

Easy to grow, evergreen, drought tolerant, deer and rabbit resistant.

It is more evergreen and more tender than one of it's parents (T. chamaedrys), for hedges or larger plantings, we recommend it for warmer zones of 6b, 7, 8, 9.

But with somewhat drained soil, and especially in areas with regular snow cover protection can be planted to zone 5.

Flowers are pink-purple and flowering is more abundant than on T. chameedrys (one of the parents, which this hybrid is often confused with).

Blooming time : June/July, with some reblooming later on
Size: 12-14" tall x 12-18" wide clumps
USDA Zones: 5 to 8
Culture: Sun, partial sun. Average soils, soils that drain well - mineral soils, drained soils, rocky, sandy soils. Avoid wet and waterlogged soils.
Moisture Needs: average - medium to medium-dry
Origin: cross of 2 European species : Teucrium lucidum - Gloss Germander (evergreen, robust, 16' tall, from South-western Alps, from dry stony hillsides, hardy to zone 6) and Teucrium chamaedrys - Wall Germander (bit shorter, more prostrate, semi-evergreen to evergreen, hardy to zone 5, central and southern Europe, drained areas, slopes). Clonaly propagated form (cuttings)
Deer/Rabbit Resistant: yes / yes
Attracts Butterflies or Pollinators: possibly some/attracts honeybees and possibly some small native bees
Attracts Hummingbirds: no
Pot Size: square 3.5" x 4" deep perennial pot

Plant Combinations: Little hedges (in warmer zones), wonderful with rocks, edges, bigger containers, rock gardens or troughs, urban traffic islands , gravel gardens, Mediterranean gardens.

Can be combined with many perennials for average to drier soils - summer flowering Allium, Agastache, Calamintha nepeta 'Blue Cloud', Coreopsis, Dalea, Dracocephallum, shorter Echinacea, Eryngium, shorter Gaura, Geranium, shorter Leucanthemum, shorter Liatris, Kalimeris 'Blue Star' , Iris x barbata 'Nana' and 'Media', Paeonia, Penstemon, Platycodon, Phlox (creeping phloxes Phlox subulata, Phlox carolina hybrids), Salvia nemorosa hybrids, Satureja, Origanum, Paeonia, Ruellia humilis, Scabiosa columbaria, Sisyrinchium, Stokesia, Tradescantia, Stachys 'Hummelo'.or Verbena canadensis.
