Culture: full sun, half shade, grows well in average soil with average moisture. Prefers rich, organic soil (add decaying leaves, compost, old manure), grows well in heavier soils too. Tolerates droughts.

Origin: Introduced by the Walters Gardens, this cultivar is patented under PP31780, propagation is prohibited .The wild species of Geranium maculatum is a native wildflower to eastern North America from Quebec to Manitoba and south to the Florida panhandle and Louisiana. Usually grows in deciduous woodlands, alluvial forests, thickets, roadsides, savannas, meadows, rocky glades, and sometimes in wet prairies.

Plant combinations: Despite the fact that this is originally woodland-edge plant, it seems to look better and healthier in full sun. Can be combined with many common perennials for sun or half shade (and average moisture) like Agastache, Amsonia, Asters, Baptisia, Phlox paniculata (or other tall phloxes), Physostegia, Rudbeckia, Tradescantia, and Veronicastrum, as well as non-native perennials like Nepeta, Salvia nemorosa, Hemerocallis, Irises, Paeonia, Sedum telephium and grasses.
This plant can also be paired with plants requiring half shade conditions like Aquilegia, Bergenia, Brunnera, Helleborus, Hosta, Omphalodes, and Pulmonaria. Good native perennial companions are these plants and their cultivars: Actaea (or Cimicifuga), Aruncus, Asarum, Asclepias exaltata, Aster ( A. ciliolatus, A. cordifolius, A. divaricatus, A. novae-agliae, A. macrophyllus), Eupatorium coelestinum, Hepatica, Heuchera, Iris cristata, Penstemon calycosus, Podophyllum peltatum, Polemonium reptans, woodland phloxes (P. bifida, P. divaricata, P. stolonifera), Sedum ternatum, Senecio aureus, Silene virginica, Solidago caesia, Solidago flexicaulis, Stylophorum diphyllum, well as native ferns or grasses like Carex, Chasmantium latifolium, and Deschampsia caespitosa.
