Healthy huge plant
Everything I get from US Perennials is great, but their grasses are incredible. Really healthy plant, exactly as described and settling in well.
Switchgrass with a compact, shorter stature of 3'. Upright, dense and not-flopping, sturdy in wind and heavy snow.
Dark rosy red flowers on the top of the plant with greenish leaves that turn golden in fall.
Blooming time : late summer to fall/winter
Size : 3' tall x 1.5-2' wide clumps
USDA zones : 4 to 9
Culture : sun, half sun, adaptable to various soil conditions, average soil, loam, clay soil. Ideal pH of the soil - neutral to slightly acidic.
Moisture Needs : medium-moist, medium (average), medium-dry, tolerates droughts, heat and humidity.
Origin : Introduced by Walters Gardens (Zeeland, Michigan). Patented plant pending.
Black Walnut Tolerant: yes
Deer/rabbit resistant: yes/yes
Attracts Hummingbirds: no, but attracts small song birds
Attracts pollinators: no
Pot Size: square 3.5" x 4" deep perennial pot
Plant combinations: Private and public plantings, low maintenance, sustainable, naturalistic plantings, deer resistant or prairie-inspired plantings.
Goes well with smaller to medium-sized shrubs. Can be combined with majority of common perennials for sun (those that prefer average to medium-moist conditions) : Asters, Agastache, Echinacea, Chelone, taller Coreopsis, Helenium, Heliopsis, Helianthus, Hemerocallis, herbaceous Hibiscus, various Irises, Leucanthemum, tall Nepeta, Perovskia, tall Phloxes, Physostegia, Rudbeckia and many others.
