Product Description
Hibiscus laevis is a tall mallow for moist soils along bodies of water or in low spots. It requires full sun to open its flowers.
Goes well with native perennials or nativars of Asclepias incarnata, Eupatorium perfoliatum, Helianthus angustifolius, other perennial Hibiscus, water Irises, Lobelia cardinalis, Lobelia siphilitica, etc.
Effective in border rears, rain gardens, water gardens, cottage gardens, native plant gardens, or close to water.

Culture: full sun (or very little shade), organically rich soils. Tolerates summer heat and humidity as long as the soil is consistently moist (doesn't like to dry out).
Moisture Needs: medium, moist, wet, shallow water
Origin: native wildflower to the Eastern and central United States; can be found growing in marshes, swamps, low areas along rivers and ponds, and on soggy islands in the middle of rivers (see the USDA distribution map)

Attracts Butterflies or Pollinators: offers nectar and pollen to bumblebees and two native bees. Host plant of caterpillars of the Gray Hairstreak butterfly, Painted Lady butterfly, Checkered Skipper, and moths such as the Pearly Wood Nymph, Yellow Scallop Moth, Io Moth and Delightful Bird-Dropping Moth.
